Tropical Depression Neneng Intensifies, Southwest Monsoon Brings Rain

Tropical Depression Neneng has intensified, with maximum sustained winds increasing to 55 km/h and gustiness up to 70 km/h. The southwest monsoon, or habagat, remains the country's major source of rain, with warnings in effect. PAGASA forecasts heavy to intense rain in several provinces, including Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro, while moderate to heavy rain is expected in Metro Manila and other areas. The tropical depression is unlikely to make landfall in the Philippines, but may make landfall in Taiwan between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.
