EPA Marks One-Year Anniversary of Office of Applied Science and Environmental Solutions
WHY IT MATTERS
The office’s science‑driven actions directly support EPA’s mission to safeguard public health and the environment, while also aiming to strengthen the U.S. economy through efficient regulatory solutions.
What happened
The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency celebrated the first anniversary of its Office of Applied Science and Environmental Solutions (OASES) on October 20, 2026.
The office was created to embed rigorous science into EPA actions and is credited with 100 gold‑standard science achievements in its first year. Highlights include demonstration that municipal waste combustors can destroy PFAS, development of a lead‑service‑line test bed in New Jersey, deployment of a mobile water treatment system for emergencies, and creation of a PFAS‑Decide web tool for water utilities.
OASES also advanced monitoring of harmful algal blooms, refined bacterial testing protocols, and supported state‑level projects on lead, children’s health, and asthma. EPA officials say the reorganization is expected to deliver more than $300 million annually to the American public while protecting air, land, and water.
