Falcons' Tua Tagovailoa Ruled Out of Opener with Oblique Injury

Tua Tagovailoa, the Atlanta Falcons' newly named starting quarterback, has been ruled out of the team's Week 1 opener due to an oblique injury. This setback comes just days after his appointment to the role. Tagovailoa's injury is unrelated to the tight back he suffered during training camp. In his place, veteran quarterback Cooper Rush will take the field against the Steelers. Rush, who has appeared in 42 regular-season games over eight NFL seasons, was signed by the Falcons after Tagovailoa's back issue surfaced earlier in training camp. Jack Strand, an undrafted free agent, will serve as Rush's backup. Michael Penix Jr. , another Falcons quarterback, has also been ruled out due to injury.
