U.S. Lawmaker Adds India to Russia Sanctions Act

A U. S. lawmaker has submitted an amendment to the Lindsey O Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act that would name India among the entities subject to U. S. sanctions. The act, which the Senate approved by an 86‑11 vote last month, targets Russia’s leadership, its energy sector and the “shadow fleet” of vessels that help Moscow evade oil‑delivery restrictions. By inserting India into the list, the amendment seeks to extend the reach of the sanctions beyond Russia and Iran. The amendment is now pending further consideration, and if adopted it would broaden the U. S. sanctions regime to include Indian entities involved in the shadow fleet or related trade activities.
