Uganda Crisis: Food Insecurity Persists in Karamoja and Refugee Camps
WHY IT MATTERS
The crisis in Uganda highlights the need for sustained humanitarian support and funding to address the food insecurity and livelihood challenges faced by vulnerable households in Karamoja and refugee camps.
What happened
In Uganda, the Crisis (IPC Phase 3) outcomes are expected to persist in Karamoja through January, driven by low livestock ownership and widespread crop losses. In refugee camps, Crisis (IPC Phase 3) outcomes are expected to deteriorate between October and January due to depleting food stocks and increasing food prices.
Households are engaging in unsustainable coping methods and off-farm activities to mitigate food consumption gaps.
Humanitarian food assistance is insufficient to offset the growing gap in food access, and funding for food assistance in 2027 has received only 33 percent of the required funding as of September 30.
