Uganda Declares End to Ebola Outbreak

The end of the outbreak allows Uganda to redirect resources to other health priorities and rebuild its healthcare infrastructure, ultimately improving the well-being of its citizens.
What happened
Uganda has officially ended its Ebola outbreak, marking 42 days without new confirmed cases of the Bundibugyo virus. The outbreak, which began in mid-May, involved 20 infected individuals, with 18 recoveries and two fatalities.
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) collaborated closely with the Ugandan Ministry of Health, providing support and training to health professionals. MSF teams rehabilitated an Ebola treatment unit in Mulago, Kampala, and renovated an isolation centre in Bwera, south-western Uganda.
They also trained emergency medical teams and supported health professionals with infection prevention and control measures. MSF has been present in Uganda since 1980 and continues to work in Kasese district, providing medical services, including sexual and reproductive healthcare, and social and mental health support.
