What happened
Ukraine's Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko resigned on September 8 after anti-corruption agencies searched the Office of the Prosecutor General. Kravchenko accused the agencies of unlawfully seizing materials from criminal cases against their own employees. He also named Semen Kryvonos, director of Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau, as a suspect in a video statement.
However, Kryvonos denied receiving the notice. President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree suspending Kravchenko from office, stating that dismissal was the prosecutor general's only option.
Kravchenko has since left Ukraine, claiming to be on an 'overseas business trip' to inform international partners about the situation. The Verkhovna Rada must now vote on Kravchenko's dismissal, expected to take place on September 15.
