Mozilla Refines Firefox’s Shake‑to‑Summarize for Recipes with Targeted Prompt Tuning
WHY IT MATTERS
By ensuring recipe summaries are complete and mobile‑friendly, Mozilla improves cooking efficiency and user confidence in Firefox’s summarization feature.
What happened
Mozilla’s Firefox Shake‑to‑Summarize feature, launched on Android in May and now on iOS, lets users tap a screen to generate concise, mobile‑optimized summaries of web pages. While the generic prompt worked well for news, how‑to, and review articles, it produced incomplete summaries for recipes, often omitting key ingredients or steps.
To address this, Mozilla created a separate, recipe‑specific prompt that explicitly lists the desired elements—servings, total time, ingredients, key steps, tips, and nutrition—and routes recipe requests through it using page metadata. A quick test on curated recipe sites showed the new system was more than twice as likely to return a complete and accurate summary.
The update delivers reliable, recipe‑ready information directly to users’ phones.
