Cameroon Humanitarian Crisis Deepens Amid Ongoing Violence and Disease Outbreaks

In Cameroon, the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate as non-state armed groups (NSAGs) intensify attacks in the Far North, causing civilian casualties and displacement. Concurrent cholera and Mpox outbreaks are straining the country's fragile health systems, with 1,529 cholera cases and 41 deaths reported across eight health districts. The North-West and South-West regions remain volatile due to 'ghost town' lockdowns, attacks, abductions, and targeting of religious personnel. Flooding in August displaced approximately 6,232 people, destroying over 200 homes and disrupting essential services. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has led a rapid needs assessment and sustained sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) services across affected regions, deploying midwives and GBV specialists to 22 health facilities. Despite funding shortages, UNFPA requires an additional $1,619,014 to sustain and expand its response.
