Chad Grapples with Escalating Sudanese Refugee Crisis and Cholera Outbreak

A recent surge in Sudanese refugees in Chad has brought the total to 944,933 since the conflict began in April 2023. The majority of these refugees are women and children, making up over 85% of the population. The influx has led to a cholera outbreak, with 599 cases and 28 deaths reported across 11 health districts in Chad. Lac Province is the most affected, accounting for 311 cumulative cases and 15 of the 28 deaths. N'Djamena has also seen a significant number of cases, with 120 reported. Chadian forces have raised defense alerts over sovereignty violations following a vehicle convoy being targeted by Sudanese Armed Forces-linked strikes in Ennedi-Est.
