UNHCR and Romanian University Partner to Support Refugees
WHY IT MATTERS
This partnership will help address the educational and social needs of refugees in Romania, promoting their integration and inclusion in host communities, and contributing to a more supportive environment for forcibly displaced and stateless persons.
What happened
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has partnered with the University of Bucharest to strengthen knowledge and research on refugee protection and asylum policies. The collaboration protocol, signed on 1 September, aims to promote access to higher education for refugees in Romania and support their inclusion in host communities.
The partnership will facilitate the exchange of information and expertise, support academic research, and develop educational materials on refugee law and asylum policies.
The University of Bucharest will support access to higher education and joint educational activities, while the UNHCR will contribute its expertise and technical materials, including a scholarship programme for refugees.
