Salt Lake City Airport Wraps $5 B Redevelopment, United Takes Majority of New Gates
WHY IT MATTERS
The new gates give United a stronger foothold at SLC, potentially reshaping flight schedules and passenger experience while signaling the airport’s readiness to handle increased traffic and future growth.
What happened
Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) has finished a 12‑year, $5 billion redevelopment, with the final phase opening on Tuesday. The new Concourse B East section now houses most of the airport’s new gates, which United Airlines will use for the majority of its flights.
Delta Air Lines, the airport’s largest operator, will still maintain a larger overall presence at SLC, but the shift in gate allocation reflects the completion of the project’s design and construction milestones. The upgrade adds modern terminal space, improved passenger flow, and expanded capacity for United’s domestic and international routes.
The project’s conclusion marks the end of a decade‑long effort to modernize SLC’s infrastructure and accommodate growing air traffic.
