United Airlines Expands Transatlantic Network with Premium Narrow‑Body Jets

What happened
United Airlines announced 10 new nonstop transatlantic routes for spring 2026, all served by the Airbus A321XLR. The jet carries a true international business‑class cabin, 20 Polaris suites, 12 Premium Plus recliners, a walk‑up snack bar, and an extra‑pay option for an empty middle seat.
The airline’s chief commercial officer said the narrow‑body platform lets United drop passengers directly at destinations such as Luxembourg, Slovenia, the Azores and Sicily without a hub stop. United plans to use the A321XLR on many of its long‑haul routes while still ordering large numbers of Boeing 787 Dreamliners for its core wide‑body fleet.
Delta Air Lines has publicly stated it will not use single‑aisle aircraft on intercontinental flights, preferring larger wide‑body jets.
