What happened
At the G20 Energy Abundance Ministerial, U. S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin and Italy’s Deputy Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Vannia Gava signed a three‑year Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen environmental protection at large‑scale events.
The pact builds on Italy’s successful Milano‑Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and will help the United States better safeguard human health and the environment for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics. It establishes a framework for cooperation and information sharing on reducing food loss and waste, expanding recycling and water reuse, and advancing circular‑economy strategies. The U.
S. will share its Feed It Onward Initiative, while Italy will contribute lessons from its recent Olympic hosting. The next step is a joint workplan to implement the MOU’s objectives.
