Brazil Ignores U.S. Critical Minerals Proposals Amid China’s Growing Influence

At Latin America’s largest mining fair, U. S. economic counsellor Matthew Lowe reported that Brazil has not responded to two American proposals aimed at formalising cooperation on critical minerals. Washington had previously invited Brazil to join the Minerals Security Partnership, a U. S. -led initiative that coordinates investment in mineral supply chains, but the country has yet to reply. The silence leaves the United States without a bilateral agreement to secure rare earth and other critical minerals from Brazil, a key step in its effort to diversify supply chains away from China. The lack of engagement underscores the challenge the U. S. faces in building alternative sources for essential minerals amid rising Chinese dominance in the sector.
