Valve Still Decides When to Release Steam Deck 2

Valve has announced its full 2026 hardware lineup—Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame—but the company has not yet set a release date for a next‑generation handheld. Designer Pierre‑Loup Griffais told IGN that Valve is still working out “how and when we can deliver something like that.” The company has repeatedly confirmed that a Steam Deck 2 will arrive, but only once it finds the right chip. The original Deck succeeded by balancing price, performance and battery life, and Valve has said it will not compromise on efficiency. The decision on the new processor will determine the handheld’s cost, power consumption and playtime, and will shape the future of Valve’s portable gaming strategy.
