Vanuatu: Volcanic Eruption Continues to Affect Ambae Island

The ongoing volcanic activity at Manaro Voui on Ambae Island in Vanuatu has resulted in increased ashfall and gas emissions, affecting surrounding communities. The Vanuatu Red Cross Society (VRCS) is working with international partners, including the French Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, to seek support for the affected population. The total affected population is 15,180, with high impact areas including South, West, and North Ambae, as well as communities in North Pentecost. The VRCS is conducting a general damage/needs assessment, providing water and sanitation services, health support, and psychosocial services. The Government of Vanuatu has activated its provincial Emergency Operations Centre and is coordinating the response with partners. Save the Children and the TVET are also involved in the response efforts.
