What happened
Former Labor councillor Sharangan Maheswaran told the Independent Commission Against Corruption (Icac) that a message from lobbyist Jeremy Greenwood, which said, “We have something that will kill Elliott,” was not connected to Greenwood’s company Beckington’s work for fugitive property developer Jean Nassif. Maheswaran denied that the message was part of political work aimed at damaging the reputation of New South Wales Liberal minister David Elliott.
The Icac inquiry is examining the circumstances surrounding the message and the alleged threat.
Maheswaran’s statement clarifies that the alleged intimidation was not linked to the developer’s lobbying activities, a point that could influence the direction of the investigation and the reputations of the individuals involved.
