WFP Enhances Food Security in Armenia's Border Areas

The World Food Programme (WFP) has made significant strides in enhancing food security and building resilience in Armenia's border areas. In the Gegharkunik province, WFP handed over a new irrigation system in Sotk, with similar projects underway in Syunik and Vayots Dzor provinces. To strengthen capacity, WFP is collaborating with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs to transfer shock assessment and preparedness tools to a national Foundation. This will enable the Foundation and the Government to predict economic shocks and take early action. Additionally, WFP is supporting the Ministry of Economy to utilize satellite-based land mapping to identify uncultivated arable land and inform evidence-based agricultural planning. The WFP Food Stack digital platform, integrating agricultural data, climate tracking, and market profiles, is being offered to the Government as a potential solution.
