7th Queer Wave Festival Celebrates LGBTQIA+ Community in Cyprus

The 7th Queer Wave festival is underway in Nicosia, Cyprus, featuring a diverse range of events, screenings, workshops, and tributes to queer ancestors. The festival, which runs until September 27, includes film screenings, workshops, and performances that celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community. Tonight, September 23, the festival will screen Shorts V: The New Era, a collection of films celebrating the joys and resistance of trans folk, as well as Carmen Emmi's debut feature Plainclothes, a psychological thriller about a closeted cop. The festival will also feature the Cypriot premiere of Elliott Tuttle's Blue Film, which is expected to spark important debates among the audience. Other highlights include the screening of Bearcave, a feel-good film that was recently cancelled due to homophobic backlash in Greece, and the world premiere of Pillion, a film exploring master-slave dynamics. The festival will conclude with a sing-along screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and a tribute to queer ancestors through audiovisual installations.
