What happened
On Friday President Donald Trump announced that employees of CNN, MS NOW and Politico would be barred from White House grounds for 'fake news' and 'fiction and lies. ' The three outlets immediately filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction to restore their credentials and halt the ban.
A lawyer from the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) said the ban is unconstitutional, citing precedent that First‑Amendment protections apply once the press is granted access. Trump’s statement that the ban was due to the outlets’ negative coverage was rejected by the White House, which remains defiant.
The lawsuit now moves to court, where the judge will decide whether the administration can revoke press access on ideological grounds.
