Philippines’ PETA Theatre Turns Audiences into Decision‑Makers in ‘Gen G’
WHY IT MATTERS
By making young people the decision‑makers, the play demonstrates the weight of everyday choices and encourages civic engagement among the next generation.
What happened
The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and Move to Change Foundation (M2C) have staged an interactive play, Gen G: GG na ‘To, that lets Gen Z audiences vote in real time to steer the story. The show opens with a Joker asking the crowd to guide the plot, and the cast—young actors playing Dex, Achi, Chloe, and Sid—must adapt to each decision.
Set amid rising floodwaters threatening a Balangay, the narrative turns the vessel into a symbol of community and shared systems.
The production has toured schools and universities through December 2026, turning theater into a live democracy experiment that reveals how youth think and act under pressure.
