Women Hold Only 22% of AI Jobs and 14% of Senior Roles, UN Women Finds

UN Women’s latest Gender Snapshot 2026 shows that women represent just 22 % of global artificial‑intelligence professionals and fewer than 14 % of senior leadership positions. The report also finds women are about 20 % less likely than men to use generative AI tools. AI is amplifying risks for women and girls: it fuels technology‑facilitated violence, reinforces gender stereotypes, and disproportionately affects women‑dominated occupations, which are almost twice as likely to be exposed to generative AI. At the UN General Assembly High‑Level Week, UN Women urged governments, donors and tech firms to strengthen AI safeguards, promote women’s participation in design and decision‑making, and address the specific harms that AI poses to women and girls.
