IOM Releases Findings from Annual DTM Global Survey on Human Mobility Data Collection

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has published the results of its annual Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Global Survey, which examines how the organization’s primary data collection programme operates across more than 127 countries. DTM, launched in 2004 in Iraq, gathers information on internal displacement and human mobility, including locations, demographics, living conditions and needs of internally displaced people and other mobile populations. The survey, conducted by the DTM Global Support team, evaluates how DTM is implemented in diverse humanitarian contexts, who uses the data, and how usage changes over time. Findings are intended to guide the programme’s future work and ensure that data collection remains relevant, responsive and context‑specific. Detailed results are available through an interactive dashboard, allowing stakeholders to explore trends and insights from the survey. The report underscores the importance of a decentralised approach, giving country‑level teams ownership of operations to adapt to local needs while maintaining global coordination.
