EMPHNET Launches Regional FETP Mental Health Program in MENA Region
WHY IT MATTERS
This program aims to address a gap in mental health epidemiology capacity across the region, where trained mental health professionals remain scarce relative to population needs, and evidence needed to guide mental health policies and responses remains limited.
What happened
The Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET) has launched a Regional Intermediate FETP – Mental Health program to strengthen mental health epidemiology capacity in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The 12-month program brings together 24 public health professionals from five countries for practical, mentored, workplace-based learning.
The program focuses on mental health surveillance and epidemiology, applied epidemiologic methods, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), and evidence-informed communication and decision-making.
