EU, EIB, UNDP Launch €15 Million Partnership to Shift Humanitarian Aid Toward Sustainable Recovery
WHY IT MATTERS
The partnership redirects humanitarian funds toward durable infrastructure and job creation, ensuring that aid not only saves lives today but also builds communities that can withstand future crises.
What happened
At the 81st United Nations General Assembly, the European Commission, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announced a four‑year partnership that will channel €15 million of EU humanitarian assistance into EIB‑backed projects in fragile countries. The funds will help transform local recovery plans into investable initiatives that restore basic services, create jobs and support small businesses.
A €3 million EIB Fragility Helpdesk will assess risks and advise on safe project design, while the remaining €12 million will enable UNDP to prepare documentation and support on‑ground implementation.
By moving communities from emergency relief to resilience, the collaboration frees humanitarian resources for urgent life‑saving aid and promotes long‑term investment in infrastructure, agriculture, energy and transport.
