Global Community Seeks to Redefine Mobility with New Framework

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and Oxfam have released a joint paper outlining a framework for mobility justice. This framework aims to address historical and modern-day inequalities in human mobility, which are perpetuated by colonial systems and global economic structures. The paper identifies the financial and trade regime, large-scale land-based investments, and the arms trade as forms of structural violence that constrain people's choices to move or stay. It also critiques cross-border mobility regimes and foreign aid for often reinforcing these inequalities. The authors propose a vision for a world where moving and staying are genuine choices available to all, rather than strategies to survive an unjust system.
