What happened
Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher, addressed a High-Level Meeting on the Declaration for the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel.
He emphasized that 130 Member States have signed the Declaration, but the test of its effectiveness lies in whether it leads to genuine protection for humanitarian workers.
Fletcher highlighted the risks faced by humanitarian personnel, including attacks, detentions, and kidnappings, and called for Member States to use their diplomatic, political, and economic power to change the behavior of parties to conflict and ensure justice for victims and families.
