NEAT+ Training Equips Caribbean Shelter Partners to Integrate Environmental Impact Assessments
WHY IT MATTERS
The training empowers Caribbean shelter partners to systematically evaluate and mitigate environmental risks, ensuring more sustainable and resilient post‑disaster housing solutions.
What happened
On 23 October 2026, Charles Kelly, Environment Focal Point of the Global Shelter, Land and Site Coordination Cluster (Green Team), delivered a three‑part video training on the Nexus Environmental Assessment Tool (NEAT+) to Caribbean shelter partners. The session, part of the CDPG Shelter TWG presentation, explained why environmental impacts matter in shelter response, guided participants through downloading and running NEAT+, and showed how to apply its results in project design and field operations.
Resources—including the NEAT+ tool and guidance in English, Spanish and French—were made available on ReliefWeb, and support was offered via EnvironmentOperations@sheltercluster. org.
The training was attended by representatives from the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Organization for Migration, and the Shelter, Land and Site Coordination Cluster. By equipping partners with a standardized assessment framework, the session aims to embed environmental considerations into every phase of shelter delivery across the Caribbean.
