WWE’s Michael Cole Stays Out of Politics, Focuses on Entertainment
WHY IT MATTERS
Cole’s disciplined approach underscores the broader trend of sports broadcasters navigating the line between entertainment and political expression, offering fans a focused viewing experience while preserving personal privacy.
What happened
For three decades, WWE’s veteran play‑by‑play commentator Michael Cole has kept his on‑air role strictly entertainment‑oriented, refusing to weave political commentary into his broadcasts. In an interview with OutKick, Cole explained that when he began with WWE in the early 1990s, the company adopted a non‑political stance that he has maintained ever since.
He avoids social media entirely, citing the risk of misinterpretation, and treats his WWE persona as a scripted character rather than a platform for personal views. Cole also highlighted how he keeps his wrestling life separate from his family life—his wife has never watched a WWE show in 31 years of marriage, except for one WrestleMania match.
He will be on air for Friday Night SmackDown this week and at Money in the Bank in New Orleans.
