Xbox Launches Disc‑to‑Digital Program, Letting Players Keep Games Digital After One Use

Xbox announced a new disc‑to‑digital program that will allow owners of most Xbox One and Xbox Series X disc‑based titles to claim a digital entitlement simply by inserting the disc and launching the game. Once claimed, the game can be played entirely digitally—without the disc—whenever the user or a family member is logged in. The entitlement also unlocks features such as Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming for supported titles. Microsoft notes that the physical disc will continue to function as before, but the program grants only one revokable license per disc, meaning that if the disc is resold or loaned, the digital entitlement could transfer to a new account when the disc is used on another console.
