What happened
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has distributed 22 tonnes of essential medical aid to Sanaa, Yemen, to replenish dwindling stocks and support hospitals overwhelmed by a growing number of war wounded. This emergency shipment is part of a broader response to the intensification of fighting, which is putting immense pressure on medical facilities across the country, particularly in Marib Governorate.
An ICRC mobile surgical team has been deployed in Marib since late August to reinforce emergency intervention capacities. The ICRC is working with Yemeni medical staff to triage urgent cases and perform surgeries.
In addition to providing medicines and medical equipment to main hospitals and medical structures since late July, the ICRC is also reconstituting stocks to strengthen emergency intervention capacities and alleviate pressure on frontline medical structures. The ICRC has also intensified aid to the Yemen Red Crescent Society, with over 50 ambulances now operational on both sides of the front lines.
