Yemen: 48 Violent Attacks on Health Care in 2025, 17 Workers Arrested

In 2025, Yemen experienced 48 documented incidents of violence or obstruction against health care, according to data from Insecurity Insight and the Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition. Seventeen health workers were arrested, and health facilities were raided or searched 12 times, with damage reported on at least nine occasions. The attacks intensified after April, with Houthi forces leading the increase in raids and arrests. Explosive weapons, including aircraft and drone strikes, accounted for 26% of incidents, ending a 20‑month lull in air‑strike activity on health facilities. The fragile system already suffered severe strain, with roughly 40% of facilities partially or not functioning and only 20% of operational sites able to provide maternal and child care. Underreporting in inaccessible areas and cuts to USAID funding likely mean the true scale is higher.
