YouTube Unveils Custom Feeds and Expanded AI Features at Made on YouTube
WHY IT MATTERS
Custom feeds give users control over content discovery, while new interaction tools like GIF comments and group chat enhance engagement, positioning YouTube to better compete in a crowded streaming market.
What happened
At the annual Made on YouTube event, Google announced a suite of new features slated for release later this year. The headline attraction is Custom Feeds, which let users add new tabs to the homepage and populate them with content chosen by a simple description.
Users can refine the feed by rating suggestions, and Google says multiple feeds can be saved, though the exact number is not yet defined. The rollout will begin in the United States for web, mobile, and TV.
Other updates include the ability to post GIFs in comments, a long‑requested feature that will let users search for animated thumbnails and embed them on videos and Shorts. The direct‑messaging system will also support group chat, initially in the US, UK, Singapore, Brazil, and selected European markets.
