American Airlines Expands European Footprint with Vienna, Reykjavik, and Porto Routes

American Airlines announced three new European destinations—Vienna, Reykjavik, and Porto—as part of a 2027 schedule rollout that adds seven international routes. The Vienna service will launch from Philadelphia on May 6, 2027, using an Airbus A321XLR, making American the only U. S. carrier to fly to Vienna since Delta’s 2008 exit. Reykjavik will begin on May 27, 2027, with an A321neo, and Porto will start on March 28, 2027, also on an A321XLR. The carrier also restores Chicago O’Hare to Tokyo Narita service and adds extra hub flights to Amsterdam, Barcelona, and Nice. These launches rely on the A321XLR’s extended range and lower operating costs, allowing American to serve midsize European markets that were previously unprofitable with larger jets.
