FIA Grants ADUO Homologations to Mercedes, Audi, Ferrari, Honda After 2026 Review Periods

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has released the results of the first two Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities (ADUO) review periods for the 2026 Formula 1 season. ADUO, a new element of Article C4 in the 2026 Technical Regulations, rewards power‑unit (PU) manufacturers whose internal combustion engines (ICE) lag at least 2 % behind the best‑performing ICE with extra homologation slots, cost‑cap relief and dyno‑testing allowances. After the Canadian Grand Prix, Mercedes fell in the 2‑4 % gap, earning one extra homologation in 2026 and another in 2027, plus the associated allowances. Audi, Ferrari and Honda were over 4 % behind, each receiving two additional homologations for both seasons. No teams received extra slots in the second period, which concluded after the Hungarian Grand Prix. The FIA notes this is the inaugural year of ADUO and that the third review will cover races 12‑18, from the Netherlands to Mexico City. Teams will need to decide how to deploy these new upgrades while managing cost‑cap limits and dyno‑testing schedules.
