Bystanders Chase Down Suspected Tesla Thief After Woman Struck in San Diego

A 39-year-old man, Juan Antonio Gonzaba, allegedly drove a stolen Tesla through a crowded San Diego pedestrian walkway, striking a 25-year-old woman and leaving her with serious injuries. Bystander Alex Srour chased Gonzaba down and tackled him after he fled the vehicle. Video shows Gonzaba sprinting through a parking lot before being brought to the ground. The woman was transferred to the hospital with a fractured spine, broken ribs, and a cut requiring 20 stitches. Gonzaba has an extensive criminal history and is being held without bail in the San Diego Central Jail. He pleaded not guilty to all charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, hit-and-run, and auto theft, and faces up to 24 years in prison if convicted.
