What happened
Germany’s Isar Aerospace has reached low‑Earth orbit for the first time with its Spectrum rocket, delivering a payload of CubeSats from a spaceport in northern Norway. The launch follows a failed test flight last year, marking a significant milestone for the company and the European launch market.
Satellite operators have long complained that launch capacity is insufficient, even amid the high cadence of launches led by SpaceX’s Falcon 9. SpaceX is currently scaling back its Falcon 9 schedule, and the timeline for its reusable Starship to carry payloads beyond its own Starlink constellation remains uncertain.
Isar’s success offers a new competitive option, potentially easing pressure on existing providers and expanding launch choices for customers across all sectors.
