Waymo Expands to Singapore with Robotaxi Service

Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, has announced plans to launch a robotaxi service in Singapore in 2028. The company's vehicles will begin arriving in the city-state in the coming months, with mapping and autonomous testing set to take place in 2027. Waymo's vehicles will initially be operated with human safety drivers behind the wheel, before transitioning to fully autonomous ride-hailing. The company must first obtain approval from Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) before accepting passengers. Singapore requires all autonomous vehicles to undergo a safety assessment conducted by the LTA. Waymo's expansion into Singapore marks the latest step in the company's international expansion efforts. The company's vehicles will be tested and mapped in preparation for the launch of the robotaxi service. The service is expected to offer fully autonomous ride-hailing to the public by 2028.
