NASA Unveils New Deep Space Station 23 Antenna at Goldstone

What happened
On August 25, 2026, NASA officials and JPL staff cut the ribbon at the newly completed Deep Space Station 23 (DSS‑23) antenna in Goldstone, California. DSS‑23 is the latest addition to the Deep Space Network’s Aperture Enhancement Project, which began in 2009 and adds six 34‑meter multifrequency beam‑waveguide antennas.
The new dish will increase the network’s ability to track, command, and receive data from spacecraft operating at multiple radio frequencies. Managed by JPL under NASA’s Space Communications and Navigation Program, DSS‑23 will support current and future missions that rely on deep‑space communications.
The installation marks a key milestone in expanding the DSN’s capacity to serve the growing number of interplanetary probes.
