What happened
On August 30, 2026, NASA launched the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center. The 7:26 a. m.
EDT launch set the telescope on a three‑month, million‑mile transit to its final orbit. Roman combines a wide field of view with high‑resolution infrared imaging to survey large areas of the sky and probe deep into the universe’s past.
The mission will investigate dark matter, dark energy, and exoplanets beyond our solar system. It is NASA’s fourth primary mission to use Falcon Heavy, and the launch was advanced this year to meet an earlier completion schedule.
